Socios.com to Invest in FC Barcelona Metaverse Division
Now, sports clubs want to diversify revenue streams and are attracting attention from VC firms by entering the metaverse. Socios.com, which designs tools to engage fans for sporting clubs, has announced that it will invest $100,000,000 in the metaverse and Web3 sections of FC Barcelona.
With the investment, Socios.com will receive a 24.5% stake in the mentioned company, as the club announced, and it will allow it to “accelerate the club’s audiovisual, blockchain, NFT and Web3 strategy.” This capital influx will allow the company to focus on developing new products that include these new technologies to build new long-term revenue sources.
Socios.com reports that Barca Studios now has access to the Chilliz Chain blockchain. This will enable developers to create defi products, play2earn and issue fan tokens.

Metaverse Growth Opportunities
The metaverse, new technologies such as NFTs, have been captivating the soccer club since the announcement of the creation of a special unit for developing products in this area earlier this year. Joan Laporta (president of FC Barcelona) stated at the time that digital was an important part of their growth strategy.
Laporta said:
We are looking for new ways to grow. We want to be able to bring joy to our fans and win championships. However, we must also profit from the opportunities available in the sport industry. This is about survival.
