Undefeated (44-0) Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramírez Challenges for WBA Light Heavyweight World Title vs․ Dmitry Bivol With Bitcoin․com Backing – Press release Bitcoin News

Gilberto ‘Zurdo de Oro’ (Golden Southpaw) Ramírez, with Bitcoin.comHe will be taking on Dmitry Bivol (also undefeated) in the World Boxing Association’s light heavyweight title. Ramirez and Bivol are the headline event on a DAZN card. It will air live from Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena, November 5, in what has been called the most important fight of 2018.

Gilberto Ramírez, the 31-year-old former WBO super middleweight champion, with five title defenses at 168 pounds in his impressive 43-0 career, has knocked out his last five opponents.

Gilberto will be facing Dmitry Bivol (also 31), who is the current world champion. The Kyrgyz-born Russian with a 19-0 record, is riding high after pulling off a title defense against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May, in what was considered a massive upset.

Bivol is a favorite of bookmakers, meaning Ramirez has a mere 21% chance of winning. Gilberto dismisses this prediction. “The odds mean nothing. I’ve prepared for this fight for years, and I know what I’m capable of. I’ve also called for this fight for years and even sent a contract last year. He has no place to hide or run this time. Come November 5th, I will be the new Champion of the light heavyweight division,” he said.

Bitcoin.com has proudly sponsored Gilberto’s journey to the top of the light heavyweight division. Zurdo was provided with a Bitcoin.com Wallet by the international crypto company in the days leading up to his victory against Yunieski Gonzaga in December. He could securely store, buy and sell cryptocurrencies.

Gilberto has continued to descend the crypto rabbit hole since then. “Bitcoin empowers everyday people to take control of their money,” he said. “With the Bitcoin.com Wallet, I can send and receive crypto globally in seconds with practically zero fees. It’s also possible to make investments in many cryptos without having my ID. That’s economic freedom, and I love it.”

In Gilberto’s native Mexico, where a record $51.6 billion in remittances were sent in 2021 (accounting for 4% of the country’s GDP), cryptocurrencies have huge potential to reduce the associated fees. A June 2022 World Bank report estimated that remittance fees average about 6% of total amount.

Bitcoin.com CEO Dennis Jarvis commented, “It’s an honor to support Gilberto on his journey. We also take seriously the chance to reach Gilberto’s passionate supporters with tools and information that we believe can empower them to benefit from the opportunities available in decentralized finance.”

Should Ramírez pull off a win on Saturday, he’d be vying for a match against fellow Mexican Saul Alvarez in what could be a Cinco de Mayo classic.

Bitcoin.com’s team wishes Gilberto success on his knockout path to continue what is already a remarkable career for a professional boxer in his prime.
