Gilberto ‘Zurdo de Oro’ (Golden Southpaw) Ramírez, with Bitcoin.comHe will be taking on Dmitry Bivol (also undefeated) in the World Boxing Association’s light heavyweight title. Ramirez and Bivol are the headline event on a DAZN card. It will air live from Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena, November 5, in what has been called the most important fight of 2018.
Gilberto Ramírez, the 31-year-old former WBO super middleweight champion, with five title defenses at 168 pounds in his impressive 43-0 career, has knocked out his last five opponents.
Gilberto will be facing Dmitry Bivol (also 31), who is the current world champion. The Kyrgyz-born Russian with a 19-0 record, is riding high after pulling off a title defense against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May, in what was considered a massive upset.
Bivol is a favorite of bookmakers, meaning Ramirez has a mere 21% chance of winning. Gilberto dismisses this prediction. “The odds mean nothing. I’ve prepared for this fight for years, and I know what I’m capable of. I’ve also called for this fight for years and even sent a contract last year. He has no place to hide or run this time. Come November 5th, I will be the new Champion of the light heavyweight division,” he said.
