According to reports, Nanjing University has launched one the nation’s first majors dedicated to metaverse-related research. This university is located in Eastern China. It stated that the new initiative is intended to teach new courses related to metaverse and help students meet the demands of metaverse businesses.
Nanjing University trains metaverse workers
Globally, more universities and education institutions include the metaverse in their programs. The university of Nanjing in China’s east will host one of its newest metaverse programs.
The Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology is renaming one of its main departments, the Information Engineering Department, to the “Metaverse Engineering Department,” with the objective of integrating more metaverse-related courses into the university. According to sources, this might be the first department that includes the word “metaverse” in China.
Pan Zhigeng is the dean for the newly renamed Department. He stated that this will help to integrate the institution with other metaverse-related businesses, to better identify their needs and to train more people to fill them.
Zhigeng stated also that the students will be better qualified to work in smart healthcare, smart education and digital tourism. Three different groups will be established by the department to advance university efforts in these areas. They are the metaverse, smart meteorological, and smart medical research.
Metaverse and Education
Others universities also use the metaverse to aid in student integration. A metaverse online campus was created by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in July. It will allow students from remote locations to take classes as though they were at the same place. According to university staff, this would produce better results than 2D video apps like Zoom for the same approach.
The University of Tokyo has also made announcements in July that they will be offering metaverse engineering courses this year.
Meta announced earlier in this month its involvement in creating 10 online metaverse campus in partnership with Victoryxr. The Immersive Learning initiative, worth $150 million, seeks to integrate the metaverse in education environments.
