Famous people have taken an interest in collecting non-fungible tokens, and some of their purchases gained them notice. For instance, a number of socialites, luminaries, big-name personalities, and today’s top brass have purchased NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection. They paid quite a lot in ethereum to purchase the BAYC NFTs. However, celebrities also have large pockets for other NFT collections.
Celebrities are a fan of NFTs
Many celebrities own NFTs and that trend is growing rapidly in recent months. When it comes to large purchases like the Bored Ape (BAYC), NFTs, stars often post their NFT purchase on social media.
Record evidence shows that a handful of well-known public figures have BAYC NFTs. These collectibles are a status symbol. Stars like the NBA’s Stephen Curry, Shark Tank’s Mark Cuban, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, comedian Jimmy Fallon, and rap star Snoop DoggAll BAYC and MAYC owners. Celebrities also collect NFTs from various collections, and some luminaries own large quantities.
Eminem
Marshall Mathers III (also known as Eminem) is an American hip-hop artist and avid NFT collector. Eminem’s first NFTs were digital collectibles that featured beat-inspired animations. They were launched at the end April 2021. Eminem was a part of the Makersplace Series A funding round in August with Paul Rosenberg, his friend and CEO at Goliath Records. Eminem bought Bored Ape Yacht Club #9055 from Paul Rosenberg for $452K in January 2022. Eminem has since bought many more NFTs, and is still the owner of BAYC #9055.
Records show Eminem has 4,064 NFTs from 134 collections and he’s a big fan of BAYC, Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), Clonex, Doodles, Kongz, World of Women (WoW), and a Gucci Grail Mint Pass NFT. Eminem has Clonex #10644 worth $29K and Clonex #27146 worth $29K. Slim Shady also has lots of Ethereum (ETH) in the wallet. At the time of writing, Slim Shady had 152.41 Ether worth approximately $395K. On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, Eminem’s wallet had around 0.1722 ether but on Friday, January 28, 2022, he accumulated a hefty sum of 387.43 ethereum (ETH).
Shaquille O’Neal
The basketball legend and sports analyst for Inside the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal, commonly referred to as Shaq, is also a big NFT collector. Data shows Shaq’s most valuable NFT, in terms of estimated price value, is Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) #14452 worth $44.1K but he also owns Creature #9018 worth $5.2K, and many other digital collectibles.
At the time of writing, Shaq’s wallet holds 890 NFTs from 90 different collections. Currently, Shaq doesn’t keep as much ethereum in his wallet as Eminem as there’s only 0.5928 ether worth $1,537 using today’s ETH exchange rates. Many people have also sent Shaq ERC20 tokens.
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton is a socialite, media personality and entrepreneur who has always been interested in digital currencies. Hilton is also a huge fan of NFTs and the metaverse and she’s got a significantly sized collection of NFTs today. According to statistics, Hilton owns 1,699 NFTs in 118 collections. Hilton’s most valuable NFT, in terms of estimated price value, is Bored Ape Yacht Club #1294 worth $211K.
She is also an avid fan of NFTs and other collections such as Clonex and Machine Hallucinations. Hilton keeps very little ethereum, as her current wallet holds only 0.1119 Ethereum worth $290. However, her wallet contains approximately 1.8 wrappedether (WETH), $53.6K of origin protocol and $53.6K (OGN)
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth, an American actress who is also a businesswoman, has been interested in bitcoin since the beginning. These days, she’s all about non-fungible token (NFT), collectibles. Currently, Paltrow’s wallet holds 82 NFTs from 12 different collections.
The BAYC NFT #6141, which is worth $223K, is her most expensive, according to estimated value. Paltrow also loves World of Women (WoW), NFTs, and Gucci Grail Mint Pass. Paltrow holds a variety of WoW NFTs including Women #7742, Woman #7743, and Woman #7812. Paltrow’s wallet only holds 0.477 ETH worth $1,236 using current exchange rates.
The Public Gets a New View of Blockchain Art by Collecting It
Celebrities have been buying high-end art for years. But blockchains offer a new perspective. Blockchains let people see all of their collections as well as a variety of data that would have otherwise gone overlooked. The trend of famous people purchasing NFTs doesn’t seem like its going to slow down any time soon and the fact that everyone can see their shiny digital collectibles probably pleases them.
