H.E. Justin Sun, founder of TRON joined Grenada’s government last December as the WTO Ambassador. He spoke about serious issues during the Twelfth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) last December. Sun addressed the SIDS conference (Small Island Developing States), climate changes, oceans and other topics.
According to the release, Conference topics include post-COVID economy crisis, food safety/environment protection, IP Protection on Coronavirus vaccines, trade facilitation and ecommerce moratorium on duties.
At the conference, he also stated that “Grenada is heavily dependent on a very predictable, transparent and efficient MTS (multilateral trading system),” and he is “working closely with WTO’s program on e-commerce in support of digitizing the economy.”
As per a video published by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) on YouTube, Sun says, “Grenada is facing an increase in commodities prices, climate crisis, and environmental emergencies.” These can be fixed, or at least can have a recovery initiation, by simply empowering e-commerce and a borderless digital economy.
Sun is not an unknown player on the market. TRON, which is one of the most popular public blockchains worldwide, was founded by Sun in 2017. Sun’s experience with blockchain technology will be used by the government to digitize Grenada’s investment, trade and governance activities, so he is a natural leader in this field.
Two other important decisions were made by Ministers: The Work Programme on Small Economies and TRIPS non-violation and condition complaints and; a Sanitary and Phytosanitary Declaration to be adopted at the Twelfth World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference: Reacting to Modern SPS challenges.
The OECS took advantage of MC12 to engage with key partners such as the International Trade Centre and Commonwealth Secretariat. (source)
H.E. Justin Sun is clearly playing an important role in Grenada’s economic development. Sun stated that he will actively promote cooperation between Grenada, other countries and increase economic growth via digital technology. This is in response to the emerging issues from the digital transformation post-COVID.
