A16z Announces That It Will Do Blockchain-Related Academic Research

Andreessen Horowitz is an investment firm that has made significant investments in Web3 and crypto startups. The company announced the creation of the a16z cryptocurrency research lab. This initiative will allow the company to address the industry’s challenges. The company considers that the crypto and Web3 sector has “emerged as a new frontier in technology, and it has matured into an independent field of knowledge that brings together elements of computer science, economics, finance, and the humanities”

The potential that the blockchain environment holds for VC firms is what fuels their determination to try to resolve all of the problems facing the industry. A16z said:

A lab for industrial research is possible to bring together experts from various fields to create a space that focuses on crypto/web3.

Tim Roughgarden (researcher and professor in computer science at Stanford and Columbia) and Dan Boneh (professor of electrical engineering at Standford), will lead the lab.

A Practical Focus on Mind

A16z started this initiative to help companies with important investments.

Four teams will be assigned to the a16z cryptocurrency lab. They are responsible for helping the companies that make up the portfolio come up with solutions, code these solutions, ensure compliance with regulations and then share their findings with the community.

In January the company sought to raise $4.5Billion for two crypto-related funds. $1B of that money was to finance new companies in this field.
