Xiaomi is one of the most important tech and mobile phone companies around the globe. A patent has been filed that exploits blockchain technology to allow the creation of virtual characters. China has introduced the patent. The patent mentions that these characters will be randomized thanks to the introduction a gene sequence. This is responsible for the appearance of each character.
Xiaomi Introduces Blockchain in Character Generation Patent
Because of its immutable, decentralized characteristics, blockchain is being used in more industries. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has filed a patent that incorporates blockchain technology in its process for creating virtual characters. The patent, titled “Virtual Character Processing Method, Device and Storage Medium,” which was introduced in January 2022, was just recently disclosed by the company.
The patent established that the company’s own virtual characters would be created using various gene sequences. These will then be used to identify the characters. This method ensures that every character is unique and unpredictable. Xiaomi could use this method to make its metaverse experiences in the future. However, no comments have been made.
Blockchain Information
It is the storage of the created characters that blockchain is being mentioned in the patent. The filing states that the characters will use the decentralized ledger technology for storing their unique gene sequences. This would prevent them from being destroyed. The patent mentions NFTs but the description of the use of blockchain suggests that this technology could be used.
The patent filing is only for the idea, the application is still pending. Although some speculate that Xiaomi could launch its metaverse platform using these virtual characters, there has been no official statement. If this happens, it wouldn’t be the first time Xiaomi has flirted in crypto. It launched the first NFT collection, called Crypto Rabbits in 2018, back in 2018. Local sources claim that the project was dropped in March, due to low demand.
