A new survey has found people’s opinion of the metaverse in emerging countries is significantly more positive than in their developed counterparts. Ipsos’ World Economic Forum (WEF) study also found that Latam nations are the most optimistic about the future and applications of metaverse technology to different industries.
Latam believes in the Metaverse
Companies are increasingly interested in what people think about the metaverse. Ipsos’s World Economic Forum survey found that half the people in the world are positive about the metaverse, but the majority of those polled believe it could have negative effects on their lives. Emerging countries, however, have more enthusiasm.
Study participants were divided into groups consisting of between 1,000 and 500 adults from 29 countries. These numbers are representative of actual population. The study reported that all of the countries in Latam surveyed — including Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Peru — had a more positive opinion that the rest of the world about metaverse technologies. Peruvians were the only country in APAC to have a more positive opinion on the metaverse. 74% of those surveyed had a favorable view.

Survey results also showed that people think that some applications of metaverse tech will succeed more than others. When asked about which kinds of metaverse apps would change people’s lives in the next 10 years, most of the surveyed believed that the impact of this tech would be more intense in activities such as virtual learning (66%), entertainment in VR (64%), virtual work settings (62%) and virtual/enhanced gaming (60%). A 52% score was given to trading digital assets. This is something that’s already being done in various metaverse platforms.
People were less enthusiastic about virtual tourism. 48% said they didn’t believe it had any positive impact. Further, the study revealed that 48% of respondents were not enthusiastic about virtual tourism.
Younger adults with more education are much more likely to be familiar with and favorable toward new technologies than are older adults who have not completed college.
Even with these differing views, the majority of people believe that metaverse technology will have a significant impact on their lives in 10 years.
