Bank of Spain Worried About Inflation and Its Consequences in Latam – Economics Bitcoin News

Date:

New data has emerged from the Bank of Spain about Latam’s economic performance in the first six months of 2011. According to the document, the inflationary developments in several regions of the country can cause institutional instability even though the region still recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bank of Spain Reports Latam Still Vulnerable

Recent reports by the Bank of Spain have examined Latam’s economic condition after the Covid-19 pandemic. This report outlines how Latam’s economy has performed in the first six months. It also describes the countries as still being vulnerable, even though they show signs of recovery.

The Bank of Spain discovered that inflation is a major problem. Rates have been at or near their highest level in two decades. The inflation rate for the region was 9.8% YoY in May. Inflation rates that are higher than the U.S. Dollar and native currencies have a negative impact on the economy. These factors, along with the decline in energy prices, make this a very troubling picture.

It is possible for institutional instability to appear

According to the report, Latam could experience institutional instability as a result of all this. This document is:

A possible increase in political and social instability (for example, as a result of the loss of purchasing power that the most vulnerable households have been suffering in recent quarters due to the rise in inflation) could significantly hamper the region’s growth prospects and hinder the implementation of far-reaching economic reforms.

Some economies of the region were dependent upon institutional and political instability in the past. Recent events saw the resignation of key members of the Argentinian Government, causing a decline in native currency exchange rates. Citizens sought refuge in stablecoins to hedge against inflation.

Not all things are bad. The report revealed that the region had been quick in adapting its monetary policy to stop inflation and to devalue the currency. As a result of gradual improvements in the economy after the Covid-19 panic, the banks credit has seen a positive shift.
