Spanish Securities Regulator Warns of Impersonators Selling Bitcoin on Its Behalf – Bitcoin News

Spanish securities regulator CNMV has warned about an unidentified party offering bitcoin sales on its behalf. These fraudsters will make phone calls asking for personal information. They also offer the opportunity to buy bitcoins that have been confiscated from an indicted Spanish company.

Spanish Securities Regulator Impersonated by Unknown Partie

Spanish securities regulator (CNMV), has issued warnings about impersonators who are asking for information in the group’s name. An unknown person is calling Spanish citizens to request data. It is claimed that the Bitcoin offered was taken from an indicted Spanish company. Also, the callers explain that they’re calling from an anti-fraud section of the organization to contact the citizen.

The CNMV warns that the CNMV has reported the irregularities to authorities in order to identify the culprits and stop these efforts. The CNMV stated that:

Immediately after becoming aware of these facts, the CNMV took various actions including alerting both the State Security Forces and the Corps.

Rodrigo Buenaventura, the president of Spanish regulator, said that they will take legal action against those who are involved in these fraud attempts.


Here are some tips to avoid being scammed

The CMNV made a number of recommendations, and requested that citizens who were contacted report the activities to authorities. It asked that citizens be alert to calls received on their behalf and, in the event of suspicious circumstances or unusual requirements, contact the regulator.

The Spanish Securities Regulator advised that users verify that CNMV email addresses are coming from the cnmv.es website and confirm the origin to exclude any unrelated links.

The institution also clarified that they will not contact citizens to offer investment opportunities or charge them for such information. The contact should be reported suspiciously to the authorities.
