Nigeria Can Become World Leader in the Digital Economy Says Vice President Yemi Osinbajo – Africa Bitcoin News

Date:

Yemi Osinbajo from Nigeria, Vice President of Nigerian is confident that his country can be the global leader in the new digital economy. Nigeria needs to adopt the correct approach, and invest more in digital skills development, for this to be possible.

Nigeria Better Equipped Than 3 Decades Ago

Yemi Olajo, Nigeria’s vice-president, claimed recently that Nigeria has sufficient human capital to become the world’s leader in digital economics. However, the vice president stated that Nigeria needs to choose the best approach and policies in order for this dream to come true.

News Ghana reported that Osinbajo spoke to the Nigeria Digital Economy Summit attendees in Abuja. The Nigerian leader explained in the same speech why Nigeria is now better than it was three decades ago when the internet’s first version came out.

“A whole new world is unfolding before our very eyes, unlike Web 1 and 2 where we were relatively disadvantaged. In 1989, we didn’t have mobile phones, so we could not take advantage of the reach and depth that mobile telecoms gave digital innovation and financial inclusion. We are now better positioned to be significant players in Web 3.”

The vice president added that Nigeria has “already shown” it is capable of achieving this goal and this can be evidenced by the “6 unicorns [we have] and many more on the way.” Osinbajo however insists that Nigeria still needs to “spend time on the development of digital skills.”
