Meta’s Trademark Filings Cover a Range of Crypto Services and the Metaverse
Meta, a Facebook founder has submitted eight trademark applications to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for Meta’s logo. These new trademarks cover a variety of crypto-related products and/or services.
Mike Kondoudis is a USPTO-licensed trademark lawyer. He tweeted Wednesday to say that applications (serial number 97320155 or 97320153), 97320147 and 97320147 were filed March 18. The applications include a variety of crypto-related services and products including crypto tokens.
Kondoudis described Meta’s applications as a blueprint for how the company intends to engage in the metaverse, Bloomberg reported.
“The goods and services of those applications extended far beyond just the run-of-the-mill NFT [non-fungible tokens] and metaverse products that a lot of applications include,” the attorney was quoted as saying. He elaborated:
This is possible only if a company has the scale to be involved in the creation and development of metaverse.
A growing number of large corporations have made a similar move, including Mcdonald’s, Burger King, Panera Bread, and Panda Express.
Meta filed its trademark application the day after Burger King’s. According to Kondoudis, the burger chain’s application covers NFTs, blockchain software, cryptocurrency trading, and virtual restaurants.
Goldman Sachs, a global investment bank believes the metaverse holds $8 trillion of potential. JPMorgan, HSBC and other megabanks have established a presence within the metaverse.
