Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Hints at Web3 Integration – Bitcoin News

Pavel Durov is the CEO of Telegram and has suggested that there will be a variety of Web3 enhancements to this popular messaging service. Durov spoke about the potential benefits of tradable usernames, channel links and a market where they could be used in much the same manner as Ethereum Name Service addresses.

Telegram Might Receive Web3 Enhancements

Companies are realizing the benefits Web3 NFTs and user-led digital markets can bring to their business operations. Pavel Durov (CEO of Telegram), one of the most well-known messaging platforms linked to crypto has indicated that some Web3 services might be integrated into the platform.

Durov looked at the recent success of a domain auction on the TON Network where over 2,000 domains sold for as much as $260,000 Telegram’s 2020 departure from TON was due to a restraining orders by the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This order forbids the sale of alleged unregistered securities.

Durov said:

If TON was able to accomplish these results, think about how Telegram could have been with 700 million users if it put reserved @ usernames and group links up for auction.

Domains such as bank.ton or casino.ton sold at high prices in the auction.

Use TON

A Web3 marketplace will allow Telegram users who have Telegram usernames, to make them available to third-party buyers and to receive payment for the digital property. This is similar to how an NFT could be sold. It could even extend to group name, which can be purchased by interested companies. This marketplace might also include sticker packs or emojis.

Durov said that this idea could be quickly built upon the TON network, since the company has already learned the structure of smart contracts, which was designed originally by Telegram. Durov shared his thoughts on this possibility:

When it comes to scalability and speed, TON probably has the best technology to host such decentralized sales … we are inclined to try out TON as the underlying blockchain for our future marketplace.

Durov didn’t give any more information on the matter, but he mentioned that an update could be coming in the next few weeks. Telegram already has TON integrated into its platform. Users can send toncoin via chat since May last year.
