Adidas, a multinational German shoe- and sportswear company, recently announced that it has joined forces with Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange. The Sandbox had tweeted two days earlier about Adidas and shared a clip from Adidas’ real estate within the Sandbox metaverse.
Metaverse Is an ‘Interesting Platform for Adidas’
According to a recent statement from an Adidas spokesperson speaking with City A.M.’s Lily Russell-Jones, the company is very focused on the metaverse. “The Metaverse is currently one of the most exciting developments in digital, making it an interesting platform for Adidas,” the company spokesperson explained to Russell-Jones on Thursday. The whole thing began Monday, November 22 when The Sandbox started tweeting about the sportswear and shoe company.
“Hey @adidasoriginals, impossible is nothing in the Metaverse. What if we invite all of the original thinkers and do-ers to design our future together?” The Sandbox tweeted.
The Sandbox is a blockchain-based virtual gaming world “where players can build, own, and monetize their gaming experiences,” according to the metaverse description. Besides a sizable plot of metaverse land shown in the video clip, it’s currently unknown what Adidas will be doing in The Sandbox virtual world. Adidas Partners with Coinbase
Adidas tweeted about its partnership with Coinbase, following the Twitter tweet from The Sandbox. Adidas stated:
We’ve partnered with @coinbase. It’s probably nothing.
After the Tweet from Adidas, Coinbase affirmed the partnership and said: “gm @adidasoriginals. Welcome to the party, partner.” Coinbase also tweetedThe thread also includes a handshake Emoji for Adidas. Adidas might have been able to see the opportunity to improve its metaverse strategy after it was revealed that Nike is getting ready for a metaverse transition and the advent of NFT technology.
The description of “downloadable virtual goods” mentioned well known Nike trademarks such as the “Just Do It” tagline, the Air Jordan “Jumpman,” and the Nike swoosh. The Metaverse lands such as Decentraland, Axie Infinity and The Sandbox have experienced significant demand ever since Facebook switched its name from Meta. The digital land plots of Metaverse are in high demand and are being sold for millions.
