Letitia James releases an investor alert on Cryptocurrency

Letitia James, New York’s Attorney General issued a Monday investor alert regarding cryptocurrency. “Many high-profile cryptocurrency businesses have frozen customer withdrawals, announced mass layoffs, or filed for bankruptcy, while investors have been left in financial ruin,” the alert states.

James advised anyone in New York who has been deceived, or is being affected by cryptocurrency platforms to get in touch with the Office of the Attorney General. In addition, she encouraged anyone in the cryptocurrency industry “who may have witnessed misconduct or fraud to file a whistleblower complaint with her office,” adding that it can be done anonymously.

“The recent turbulence and significant losses in the cryptocurrency market are concerning,” the attorney general emphasized, elaborating:

Investors received large returns from cryptocurrencies but ended up losing their hard-earned cash.

Investors have suffered losses of hundreds of billions in cryptocurrency markets over the past few months. The alert cites the terra(LUNA) and terrausd [UST] collapses, as well as withdrawal freezes at several firms like Voyager Digital, Celsius Network, and Voyager Digital.

Attorney General James detailed:

Any New Yorker that believes they have been deceived or lied to by cryptocurrency platforms should contact me. I also encourage employees in crypto companies to lodge a whistleblower claim.

“OAG is interested in hearing from New York investors who have been locked out of their accounts, who are unable to access their investments, or who have been deceived about their cryptocurrency investments,” the announcement adds.

In June, James issued a warning about investing in cryptocurrency, stating that the crypto market is “extremely unpredictable” and “unstable.”
