Ukraine has raised millions in bitcoin and other major crypto currencies, but now it is also receiving donations in polkadot. As it relies more on the help of the crypto community for its defence against Russia, the country plans to increase the number of coins that are accepted.
Ukraine Gets its First Polkadot Gifts and Posts it as a DOT Address
The Ukrainians offer crypto users worldwide another way to help their cause in the face of the ongoing Russian military offensive. The Ukraine Twitter account posted a DOT address and a welcome statement to polkadot donations early Tuesday morning.
This post is a sincere expression of gratitude to the Ukrainian people for all the donations from the international crypto community. In the post, it also states that there will be support for additional cryptocurrencies in the very near future.

After Gavin Wood (co-founder Ethereum, creator of Polkadot) tweeted Sunday that if Ukraine gave him a DOT number, he would send $5,000,000 in cryptocurrency. Over $200,000 has already been transferred to polkadot as of this writing.

Up to now, Ukraine has collected approximately $40 million in digital currencies like bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and stablecoin Tether (USDT). Besides authorities in Kyiv, non-government organizations supporting the Ukrainian military, such as “Come Back Alive,” are also among the recipients of the crypto aid.
Forklog reported that there has been a call for Ukraine to accept other cryptocurrencies such as privacy-oriented monero, XMR. Justin Sun, founder of Tron and the tweet that followed the announcement about polkadot, added: pledgedIf the Ukrainians have a TRX address, they can contribute $1,000,000
While actively seeking to finance its defense and humanitarian efforts through cryptocurrency, the government in Kyiv has been urging the crypto industry to cut Russia’s access to the space. On Sunday, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov asked all major crypto exchanges to block addresses of Russian users. But, major trading platforms such as Binance and Kraken refused to block Russian users.
A day earlier, Fedorov, who is also Ukraine’s minister of digital transformation, tweeted that the local crypto community is willing to reward those who reach out with information about crypto wallets used by Russian and Belarusian politicians.
Russia has been isolated from the world financial system by western sanctions. This includes the expulsion of several Russian banks from SWIFT. Concerns have grown that Moscow could use cryptocurrency to get around the sanctions.
