Meta, a social networking company, expanded Horizon Worlds’ services to France and Spain through its metaverse app. The expansion of Meta’s Horizon Worlds app to other European countries is the reason for this move. The app had been available in invite-only mode in 2020. However, the service was made open to all in December 2021 in the U.S. as well as the Canadian markets.
Meta Expands App Horizon Worlds in Spain and France
Meta, the social media giant, has expanded its offerings to Europe. Horizon Worlds is one of the company’s main metaverse apps. It was launched in France and Spain by the company. The company posted that it will offer this service to all people over the age of 18 in the countries mentioned.
Horizon Worlds allows you to explore a virtual world where your avatar is configurable. You can also roam around worlds that have been created by other players, or experience developed by companies. Horizon Worlds will be launched in two European countries as part of an effort to expand its reach beyond Europe.
Since 2020, the app has been an invitation-only beta. This December, it opened to Canada and the U.S.; this was followed by this year’s launch to Ireland and Iceland.
Spain-Focused plans
Spain has been a very important country to the company. It decided to invest over a billion dollars in a huge data center located in Talavera de la Reina. Javier Olivan VP cross Meta products and infrastructure stated that this is the case:
Spain is at forefront of European tech. Spain has two tech centers: Madrid and Barcelona. As our company prepares to help build the metaverse, we’re placing Spain at the heart of our plans.
In addition, a new Meta Workers’ Hub will also be built in Madrid. In partnership with Telefonica the company will also build a Metaverse Lab to attract companies that produce metaverse-based goods.
The Spanish government also asked Meta to respect national laws regarding the use of data that it collects through its applications. According to local media, Pedro Sánchez, president of Spain, stressed that the data of the Spanish people would have to stay in Spain and be processed according to local laws.
