Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt Is Skeptical About the Metaverse Concept – Metaverse Bitcoin News

Date:

Eric Schmidt was the CEO of Google. He stated that people are still confused about the meaning of the metaverse. Schmidt stated that, even with a company like the former Facebook pivoting its operations to occupy the metaverse market, there is still not a clear definition of the concept and how it will affect people’s lives.

Metaverse Still Not Defined, According to Google’s Former CEO Eric Schmidt

There have been many companies and individuals who are investing in the idea of the metaverse and bet on its growth. However, this is not the case for everyone. Eric Schmidt is an entrepreneur who was the CEO of Google’s tech company from 2001 to 2011. Schmidt is skeptical about how important and likely adoption of new technology will be in the near future.

Schmidt spoke out about the metaverse at an event held in Colorado this week. He declared:

There’s not an agreement on what the metaverse is, even though one company has changed its name in anticipation of defining it.

Schmidt was clearly referring to the Meta transformation that took place when it became Facebook. It included metaverse tech among its pillars. Last year, the entrepreneur also took another dig at Facebook, stating that he didn’t think Meta would be the company to shape the metaverse, even if the form it will take is yet undetermined.

Metaverse Land and Investments

Companies and countries have already invested heavily in the metaverse technology. This is a technology currently linked with AR and VR (augmented reality), technologies and apps that utilize them. South Korea is one of the countries to have identified the metaverse technology as the key tech of the future. In May, it announced $177 million in direct funding for metaverse platforms. The idea was also to kickstart national companies that are interested in the technology.

Schmidt also questioned the validity of real estate in metaverse. He stated the following:

I’m not worried about buying large swaths of private real estate in the metaverse myself. It’s not a concern I have every day.

According to Metametric Solutions (a metaverse analytics company), sales of metaverse real estate properties are predicted to exceed $1 billion in this year.
