How to tackle the problem of copyright infringement in the music industry
Koong World, a South Korean peer to peer music sharing platform has recently applied for an antimusic theft patent at the Korean Intellectual Property Office. According to reports, Kung World claims the patent will allow it to address the problem of music industry copyright infringement.
Just one year has passed since the original launch of the music sharing platform. The platform has grown to include over 2,000,000 members and more than 40,000 songs since its inception in 2021.
Forkast reports that Koong World received a Korean Intellectual Property Office patent registration on April 14th, 2021. Another report by FN News said the patent is for “a method of providing services performed on a server of a music platform using blockchain-based NFT.”

Kim Han-jo from Koong World explained, in comments after the registration of the Patent, how artists can protect their intellectual properties through the patent. He said,
Based on the patent, this invention allows us to fix the problem of copyright in the fast-growing music market and apply digital certificates for all products. This is a major problem with online product sales. The technology we are developing to solve the counterfeit controversy will be available soon.
The chairman also hinted that the success of the patent hinges on the development of an open ecosystem that “utilizes all online products including music and financial services, and receive fair compensation.”
The report said Koong World’s NFT patent, which has been described as the first of its kind, is expected to help “guarantee” profits that accrue to music creators.
