Liquidations Surpass $300 Million As Bitcoin Touches 40-Day Lows

The weekend saw a rise in crypto liquidations. There were a few dips in the market that saw $80 billion taken off of crypto markets. Bitcoin had fallen to the $38,000 mark and taken over the remainder of the crypto market. And, contrary to all expectations, Ethereum claimed the title as the 2nd-largest cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin Lead Liquidations

Bitcoin liquidations are without doubt the most high-profile in this space. Being the biggest digital asset in the crypto market, bitcoin traders usually bear the brunt of it whenever there’s a large liquidation effect. It was second only to Ethereum liquidations this time, as its price had dropped to $2,800s.

Bitcoin had experienced $72 million worth of liquidations in the past 24 hours. It is interesting to note that most of these liquidations occurred in the 12 hours prior to this writing. At press time, more than $48million had already been liquidated. Due to the declining price of bitcoin, the bulk of these liquidations were made by long traders. Some bitcoin liquidations were however short.

Ethereum liquidations followed the exact same pattern with the vast majority of liquidations occurring in the previous 12 hours. With $65 million of the liquidations taking place in the past 24 hours, the second largest cryptocurrency market capital had witnessed approximately $80 millions in liquidations.

It was the crypto asset that had the highest number of liquidations, with traders who are long taking the biggest hits. The four-hour chart shows that Ethereum is doing better, with Bitcoin leading the pack with $6.24million in liquidations. ApeCoin follows close with $5.46million of liquidations. They were mostly quick liquidations, as the BAYC token was able to recover above $17 again.

The crypto market has seen more than $300,000,000 in liquidations within the past 24 hours. More than 60% of the volume has been recorded in the 12 hour chart. $234 Million was liquidated during this period.

LUNA, which saw $1.1 million liquidated in just four hours, is another digital asset that has been affected. On the 4-hour chart, Meme coin Dogecoin was valued at $418.84K.
