In the past several years, crypto assets have seen rapid adoption by individuals and businesses. Now it is not uncommon to buy a nice meal for yourself or a brand new pair of sneakers, and then pay in cryptocurrency. It is simple and amazing that blockchain-based payments have come so far. With the growing use of crypto payments in everyday life, the future payment option has moved one step closer towards mainstream acceptance.
The well-known aviation company Fast Private Jet recently published an interesting study of the world’s best crypto-friendly cities. Surprisingly the most crypto-friendly cities were mostly located in Europe. Ljubljana (the capital of Slovenia) took the number one spot for the best crypto friendly city in Europe.
Ljubljana surpassed other crypto-savvy cities such as Prague, Madrid and Vienna to claim the top spot for most crypto-friendly destinations with over 137 businesses, 584 locations that accept payments using digital tokens and coins, and a total of $584 in transactions.
Slovenia has 1333 bars, restaurants, shops and other venues that accept crypto payments. Eligma, a Slovenian company that developed the GoCrypto Network in 2018, is the backbone of this innovative payment system.
GoCrypto is the most rapidly-growing cryptocurrency payment network worldwide in just four years. GoCrypto can be found in 69 different countries around the world and has at least one location in each 32. More than 150 million users have access to GoCrypto at over 80.000 stores (physical or online). The crypto network is also integrated into Eligma’s holistic payment solution, Elly POS terminal, as one of its numerous payment methods.
GoCrypto, the network that runs Europe’s most crypto-friendly cities, is accessible in diverse segments. These include automotive, electronic, sport, electronics and entertainment.
Slovenia’s crypto payment story began in Ljubljana’s biggest shopping district, conveniently called the BTC City. BTC partnered with GoCrypto and provided merchants with a complete testing environment to allow them to accept payments in cryptocurrency. Retailers were very interested in the innovative payment system, now offered in over 100 BTC places. Atlantis Water City was the location of the first crypto-payment. Crypto-payments are now used in almost 90% of all transactions. BTC City has transformed its business to become the first Bitcoin-friendly city in the world by integrating the GoCrypto payment platform, ATMs that allow you to exchange fiat (eur), and cryptocurrencies with its Blockchain and Start Up community.
With no crypto expertise required, business owners can immediately integrate GoCrypto into their cashier system to accept crypto payments. Their customers can decide to use one of the two biggest crypto wallet providers Binance Pay and Bitcoin.com Wallet, or Eligma’s own custodial Elly Wallet, which was specifically designed to support every aspect of the GoCrypto network. Each of these wallets support 50 different cryptocurrency.
The best thing about this is that merchants are able to avoid any crypto volatility risk by choosing their local currency for settlements. If they wish, they are able to accept crypto as well as settle their transactions in euros.
Global travelers are increasingly interested in crypto-friendly destinations. Ljubljana was named the European Best Destination 2022, and is now recognized as the Best Crypto-Friendly European City. The Slovenian capital will be a major tourist attraction in the coming years.
