According to NBC News’ recent survey, 1 in 5 Americans used cryptocurrency for trading or investing. The findings suggest that crypto assets continue to become more popular as 21% of the 1,000 participants surveyed have “dabbled” in crypto assets.
One in five Americans has used cryptocurrency assets at some capacity, according to a survey
The crypto currency has seen significant growth in the past year. At the time of writing, the cryptocurrency economy was valued at $2.2 billion. One in five Americans has used cryptocurrency in some way, according to NBC News. The popularity of cryptocurrencies among men is significant.
Men accounted for the highest proportion of the respondents, as half of those aged between 18 and 49 stated that they’ve either bought or traded cryptocurrency assets.
Participants polled had different opinions about cryptocurrency and the industry. 56% said they weren’t sure or neutral about their feelings about the digital currency ecosystem.
The industry and crypto assets were viewed positively by 19%, while the negative view of 25% was held by 25%. The poll surveyed 1,000 adults from March 18 to March 22 and added a “margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points.”
Quantifying Crypto Participants
Many polls have attempted to determine how many Americans have heard about or owned a portion of cryptocurrency assets over time. Survey Monkey and Global Blockchain Business Council conducted a poll with 5,761 Americans four years ago.
According to the survey statistics, 21% of the participants were “considering adding it to their portfolios” in 2018 and 5% held digital assets. Survey Monkey’s 2018 survey revealed that 58% of respondents were males, just like the NBC News poll.
Nordvpn released a report in mid-February explaining how it surveyed 1,000 Americans and found that 68% knew about the potential risks associated with cryptocurrency assets. While 32% of the surveyed individuals disclosed they were not aware of any risks, 69% of all the American participants “had some understanding of what cryptocurrency is.”
A second survey was published by cryptoliteracy.org in November 2021. It showed that understanding cryptocurrency basics is still very low for 2021. Although the survey included people from only a few countries it found that 96% did not understand basic crypto knowledge.
