Gathering of the key stakeholders from the tourism sector to discuss blockchain
‘’The Global Tourism Forum Blockchain for Travel Summit’’ was organized by Ariva Digital and World Tourism Forum Institute and was supported by Dubai Tourism which attracted key stakeholders in the tourism sector and top profile speakers. This event had a central focus on discussing the potential impact of blockchain technology on the sector.
France’s former President Francois HollandeThe ideal environment for taking tourism up the next level was provided by blockchain technology, he said. He stated that both governments and the private sector would benefit from blockchain technology and cryptocurrency to preserve important information and create investment plans for the tourism industry.
‘More accurate data created by blockchain and crypto currency payment technologies will help governments and private sectors to shape their investment plans and services on tourism effectively.’Cryptocurrencies will allow us to create a payment system that secures more than anything we are currently using. It is my belief that this system will grow worldwide. Holland added.
He further noted that ‘’It’s all governments and head of states’ responsibility to make travel easier to access for everyone. It is their responsibility to create the right conditions for new technologies such as blockchain and cryptocurrency, in order to make it possible to not only facilitate subjects like health, transport and security, but also to allow them to provide access to other areas like transportation and security. Because these technologies can give us some elements that allow us lower fees and more security to further support movement of travel’’.
A top international development banker echoed the sentiment. Kaiser NaseemThey also noted that Blockchain has the potential for improving existing financial products.
Europe is the leader in blockchain regulation, making it an ideal place for adoption. Ismail ErtugA member of the European Parliament believes in a mutually beneficial relationship. ‘’My wish is to set the golden standard for regulations on these new technologies should be coming and driven by EU’’. He added.
Jose Ramon BauzaA member of Europeaan Parliament, Mr. X also expressed his belief that the blockchain could transform various sectors within the EU. With all EU members, we must take advantage of our position in blockchain. Blockchain offers a great opportunity. If you don’t see it you loose your time. EU members and their allies should be competitive in crypto currency and blockchain against other regions. This should inform the EU leader.
The blockchain is connected to almost all things we encounter everyday in tourism, he said. Can you imagine that when we’re on a flight it can happen to us to loose our luggage… Thanks to blockchain, it can be avoided. Blockchain is a tool that can be used to improve every sector of the tourism industry.
Haitham Matar a major stakeholder and managing director MEA & South West Asia IHG Hotels & Resorts also added his thoughts on the state of the tourism industry. No hotel owner today is able to meet their expectations at the speed they need. Like any other business, hotel owners want quick and easy information. We’re now using artificial intelligence now not only to appease the owners but to also improve our reservations. It allows our guests to make bookings and have confirmations faster – and hopefully gives the owners what they want easy access to information to make quick smart financial decisions.
He said, “I dream of hotels without receptionists.” The AI helps self-check-in and save guest’s time. In today’s world even 5 minutes waiting time in a line is very long time. These experiences are improved and followed by technology.
Dr. Michael GebertEuropean Blockchain Association Chairman also emphasized the importance and potential benefits of blockchain technology. ‘’We need to understand blockchain in order to use it. If blockchain is compared to money use, no one can understand how it works at the moment. Trust is what you depend on. Trust is the central issue between money and blockchain. If you look back at that experience, it is clear that trust is necessary to make things work or simulate.
The blockchain-side of tourism is important because it involves a lot of data. If there is enough data, trust can be established. Once the trust has been established, it can be used to establish relationships and business. He concluded.
